Taxi, Shuttle or Private Transfer from Antalya Airport: An Honest Comparison

Taxi, shared shuttle or private transfer from Antalya Airport? An honest look at meter fares, waiting times, fixed prices and who each option really suits.
You have landed at Antalya Airport, collected your luggage, and now face a practical question: how do you get to the hotel? If you are not planning to drive yourself, there are three realistic options — the taxi rank outside the terminal, a shared shuttle, or a pre-booked private transfer. Each makes sense for a different kind of traveller.
The airport taxi
The taxi's big advantage is immediacy: walk out, get in, go. No booking, no waiting for other passengers. The catch is the meter. The distance to your hotel never changes, but the final fare does — it depends on traffic, the route and the time spent standing still, so you will not know the exact amount until you arrive. At busy arrival times there can be a queue at the rank, and a standard saloon car struggles with a family of four plus large suitcases. A taxi works best for short hops — Lara is 13.8 km from the airport, the city centre 15.7 km — with light luggage and no wish to book anything.
The shared shuttle
On paper the shuttle is the cheapest option, because you pay per seat rather than per vehicle. The trade-off is time. The vehicle leaves when it is full, then calls at other hotels along the way, so a journey of about 89 minutes by car to Alanya (127.2 km) can stretch well beyond that. Night arrivals are the other weak point: shuttles run to a schedule, and a late flight may land after the last departure. The shuttle suits solo travellers or couples on a tight budget who are in no hurry.
The private transfer
A private transfer is priced per vehicle, not per person, and the price is fixed at booking — Lara from €25, Belek from €35, Side from €40, Alanya from €55 for a Comfort sedan. Only your group travels in the car — no other pickups, no detours. The driver meets you inside the terminal with a name sign, tracks your flight number, and waits without extra charge if you are delayed. There is no prepayment — you pay the driver in cash at the end. For one person over a short distance this is rarely the cheapest choice. But for a family of three or four, per-seat pricing multiplies while the per-vehicle price does not, so the gap closes quickly and often reverses. And because the service runs 24/7 at the same price, a 3 a.m. landing costs no more than a midday one.
How to decide
- Short distance, little luggage, want to leave immediately: take a taxi.
- Travelling alone, tight budget, no time pressure: the shuttle is hard to beat on price.
- Family or group, a resort further out, or a night flight: a private transfer usually wins on price per person and certainty.
- Lots of luggage or a bigger group: book a van-class transfer (the Premium Van seats 6, the 12 Seater takes 12) rather than gambling on taxi boot space.
We run private transfers ourselves at Total Rent a Car — which is why the list above still names the taxi and the shuttle where they genuinely fit. Fixed prices for every resort from Lara to Mahmutlar appear instantly in the search box on our site.
